What E3 means

The indoor fan motor sends a speed-feedback signal (tachometric pulse) to the control board. When the board detects that the fan is not spinning, spinning too slowly, or not sending any feedback, it raises E3 and stops the compressor to prevent the evaporator from freezing.

On most Walton models, the indoor unit's LED blinks five times for E3.

Do not keep restarting. Running the compressor without proper indoor airflow will freeze the evaporator coil and can damage the compressor.

How to fix it

  1. Power off at the breaker.
  2. Open the indoor unit panel and visually inspect the blower wheel (cross-flow fan).
  3. Try spinning the wheel by hand. It should turn freely with minimal resistance. If it feels stiff, dust buildup or a seized motor bearing is the cause.
  4. Clean the blower wheel. Heavy dust accumulation on the blades creates drag and slows the fan. Remove the wheel if possible and wash it.
  5. Check the motor connector on the indoor PCB — reseat it firmly.
  6. Test the motor. If the wheel spins freely but the motor does not start, the motor has failed and needs replacement.
  7. Check the motor capacitor (non-inverter models only). A weak or blown capacitor prevents the motor from reaching full speed.

Prevention: Clean your Walton AC's filters every two weeks and get a professional deep clean at least once a year (Walton offers two free cleanings during the 2-year after-sales warranty).
