What EC means

EC is a refrigerant-shortage protection code. The control board monitors suction pressure and temperature patterns to detect when the gas charge has dropped below safe levels. Running a compressor with low refrigerant causes overheating and eventual failure.

Do not keep restarting the AC. Each restart attempt with low gas stresses the compressor. Call a technician.

What to do

  1. Turn the AC off and do not restart.
  2. Check the outdoor pipes. Frost on the large (suction) pipe is a strong indicator of low gas.
  3. Call a licensed technician or Walton service (1800-345-1234). They will perform a leak test, find and repair the leak, vacuum the system, and recharge with the correct weight of R32 or R410A.
  4. Common leak points: Indoor and outdoor flare connections, service valve caps, and evaporator U-bends.

Bangladesh tip: Poor installation (loose flare nuts) is the leading cause of gas leaks in Walton ACs. If EC appears within the first few months, contact the installer — it should be covered under installation warranty.
