What the E1 error code means

When you start a wash cycle, the IFB dishwasher opens its water inlet valve and expects the tub to reach the correct water level within a set time (usually 4-8 minutes depending on the model and cycle). If it does not, the machine stops and displays E1.

This is one of the most common IFB dishwasher errors — and in most cases it is caused by something outside the machine, not a parts failure.

Quick check: Before opening anything, make sure the water tap behind or beside the dishwasher is fully open. This is the number one cause of E1.

Common causes

The cause is almost always related to water supply rather than the machine itself. A closed tap, low water pressure, a kinked supply hose, or a clogged inlet filter can all prevent the machine from filling. Less commonly, the water inlet valve solenoid inside the machine may have failed.

Step-by-step fix

  1. Check the water tap. The tap supplying water to the dishwasher must be fully open. This is the most common cause of E1.
  2. Check water pressure. Open the tap into a bucket — you should get a strong, steady flow. If pressure is low (common during peak hours in Indian cities), wait and try again later.
  3. Inspect the supply hose. Look for kinks, bends, or pinches along the hose from the tap to the back of the dishwasher. Straighten any kinks.
  4. Clean the inlet filter. Where the supply hose connects to the back of the dishwasher, there is a small mesh filter. Unscrew the hose, remove the filter, and rinse it under running water to remove any debris.
  5. Reset the machine. Press the Power button to turn it off, wait 2 minutes, then turn it back on and start the cycle again.
  6. If E1 persists: The water inlet valve solenoid inside the machine may be faulty. This requires a technician — call IFB customer care (1860-425-5678) or book a service visit through the IFB app.

India tip: In areas with overhead tank water supply and low pressure during daytime, try running the dishwasher late at night or early morning when pressure is highest.
