Haier Refrigerator E0 Error — PCB & Display Board Communication Fault & Fix
E0

Quick answer
E0 on a Haier refrigerator means the main PCB and the display board have lost communication. The wire harness between the two boards is disconnected, damaged, or one of the boards has failed.
What E0 means
Haier refrigerators use a main control PCB (usually at the rear bottom) and a display control board (on the front door panel). These two boards communicate through a flat ribbon cable or wire harness. E0 appears when the data link between them is broken — the display board cannot receive instructions from the main board, or vice versa.
You may see E0 on the display while the fridge itself may or may not continue cooling (depending on the model — some stop, others run in a fallback mode).
How to fix it
- Unplug for 10 minutes. A power surge can cause a temporary communication glitch. Unplugging resets both boards.
- Check the wire harness. Open the top hinge cover or display panel housing (varies by model) and inspect the ribbon cable or wire connector running between the door display and the main unit. Reseat both ends firmly.
- Check for door hinge wire damage. On French-door and side-by-side models, the display wire passes through the top door hinge. Repeated opening and closing can fatigue and break the wire at this point — inspect carefully.
- If E0 persists, one of the boards may be faulty. A technician can swap-test to identify which board has failed.
What does the E0 code mean?
E0 indicates a communication failure between the main PCB and the display control board. The data link (wire harness) is broken or a board has failed.
Common causes
- Loose or disconnected wire harness between main PCB and display board
- Damaged ribbon cable at the door hinge area
- Faulty display board
- Faulty main PCB communication circuit
- Power surge corrupting board communication

How to fix the E0 error
Unplug for 10 minutes
Full reset clears temporary communication glitches.
Check wire harness
Reseat connectors at both the main board and display board ends.
Inspect door hinge area
Wire passing through the hinge can fatigue and break.
Call a technician if persistent
Board swap-test needed to identify the faulty board.
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before accessing any wire harnesses or boards. The main PCB carries mains voltage.
Part you may need: Wire harness / display board / main PCB
On French-door models, the hinge wire is a known weak point. Inspect it carefully when troubleshooting E0.
Frequently asked questions
Will the fridge still cool with E0?
On some models it runs in a fallback mode; on others it stops entirely. Fix E0 promptly regardless.
Can a power outage cause E0?
Yes — a power surge can disrupt communication temporarily. A 10-minute unplug usually clears it.
