What E1 means

The freezer fan pulls air across the cold evaporator coil and pushes it into the freezer and fridge compartments. E1 appears when the main PCB detects that this fan has stopped — either no current draw or no speed feedback.

Symptoms: freezer warming, fridge side warming, you cannot hear the usual fan hum when the door is closed, and the compressor may run continuously trying to compensate.

Act quickly. Without the freezer fan, food in both compartments will begin to thaw. Move perishables to a cooler.

How to fix it

  1. Unplug the refrigerator.
  2. Open the freezer and remove shelves, baskets, and the rear panel to access the evaporator area.
  3. Check for ice around the fan. Heavy frost can physically block the fan blades — this is the most common cause. If iced over, defrost completely (4-8 hours).
  4. Try spinning the fan by hand. It should turn freely. If stiff, the motor bearings are seized.
  5. Check the motor connector on the main PCB — reseat it.
  6. Replace the fan motor if it does not spin when powered. Match the part to your Haier model number.
