What Er means

The ice maker in a Haier refrigerator uses a motor to rotate the ice tray and eject cubes into the collection bin. Er appears when the control board detects the ice maker motor has stalled, the tray is jammed, or the ice maker sensor is not responding.

How to fix it

  1. Check the ice bin. If overfull, ice cubes can jam the ejection mechanism. Empty the bin and try again.
  2. Check for a stuck ice tray. Sometimes ice fuses to the tray and prevents rotation. Pour a small amount of warm water over the tray to free it.
  3. Check the water supply. If no water reaches the ice maker (closed tap, frozen fill tube), the tray makes nothing and the motor stalls trying to eject non-existent ice.
  4. Reset the ice maker. Look for a small reset button on the ice maker module (varies by model). Press and hold for 3-5 seconds.
  5. If Er persists, the ice maker motor or sensor may need replacement. Call Haier service.
